I feel that the programme touches on all aspects of the literacy curriculum and as a result I am not looking to other programmes to support my literacy teaching. The characters /letter sound actions are very relatable to young children, and they are really excited about meeting new toys in the playroom and learning their sounds. Each unit is laid out in a very user-friendly way, and I like how the lessons are divided and the clear instructions that are given for each lesson. In addition, the home-school links videos are fantastic, and parents are finding them very useful in helping them to support their child with the phonics programme at home.
Building strong readers one sound at a time.
A Joyful Reading Journey!
Welcome to the Honeydew Kingdom Foundational Skills Programme. A structured and engaging literacy programme designed to build strong reading foundations for young learners in their first 2 years of school.
The Perfect Phonics Companion – Works with Any Programme
Letter-Embedded Picture Mnemonics
Memorable characters like Bossy Bear and Kicking Koala help link letter shapes and sounds, enhancing memory for phoneme-grapheme associations.
Multi-Sensory Learning
Catchy action phrases, movement activities, and visual aids reinforce letter-sound connections, supporting automaticity of letter sounds.
Digraph Characters & Stories
Vowel and consonant digraphs include engaging stories that explain how letters work together to form new sounds. These fun narratives help children retain digraph spellings and pronunciations.
Supports Orthographic Mapping
By linking letters, sounds, actions, and words, these cards promote orthographic mapping, the process of securing spellings in memory for automatic word recognition.
Introducing A – Z Using Nursery Rhymes
- Introducing A – Z Using Nursery Rhymes is a fun and engaging activity book that introduces young children to the alphabet through the rhythm and familiarity of nursery rhymes.
- This book lays the foundation for early literacy by developing phonological and phonemic awareness, letter identification, and sound-spelling mapping in a structured and interactive way.
High Frequency Words Activity Book
- A carefully designed resource for children in their first year of school, focused on developing automaticity in reading and writing high-frequency words.
- This book moves beyond rote memorisation by explicitly focusing on the sound-spelling relationships within these words. By using a structured literacy approach, it provides a comprehensive and systematic way to ensure that children develop a robust understanding of how to read and write these essential words.
Systematic Phonics Instruction
Children learn letter-sound correspondences (grapheme-phoneme relationships) in a carefully sequenced order, ensuring they encounter only words they can decode.

Testimonials
We have only had our parent/teacher meetings recently and so many of our parents have commented on how impressed they are with their children’s reading and literacy ability and we feel this is testament to the programme.
Our children are capable of so much more than we thought. The programme is more fluid and allows the children to access the corner stones of literacy in a fun and interactive way. By and large the programme is a ‘one stop shop’ and a great resource to use.
find the Honeydew Kingdom programme a very comprehensive programme which covers all aspects of the English curriculum for Junior Infants. I particularly like the way the programme blends all the aspects together from phonological awareness to phonics to reading and writing. It is a very interactive and active programme which really engages the children. The games are fun and the activities are stimulating and varied.
Fun and engaging for children, making the content more memorable and meaningful for them. I have never had a Junior Infant class who have been able to do what my class can do this year in terms of reading and writing.
We are really reaping the benefits of the Honeydew Kingdom Programme. We have seen such a huge improvement across the board, even with struggling readers.
Fantastic – really informed my teaching of phonics. I now see the correlation with most recent research on phonics teaching, including orthographic mapping, etc.
Super resource, really helps children learn in a fun way. Very teacher friendly also. I love how everything is connected and integrated.
Honeydew Kingdom has transformed my approach to teaching phonics and reading.
The children in my class are thoroughly enjoying the Honeydew Kingdom Programme. They are excited to meet every new character and one of their absolute favourite parts of a lesson is consolidating the sounds. We get Oscar-worthy performances as they pretend to be cranky ‘Nanny No’ or the naughty ‘Itchy Iguana’. The fun elements of the programme help carve the letters and sound firmly in the children’s minds. The games always prove to be a hit and are a novel way of assessing children’s newly gained knowledge too. The fast-paced approach, together with a wide variety of content makes for dynamic and exciting lessons.
Without doubt, children in my class are wholly engaged and getting so much out of this programme.
I loved the videos because I learned how to do things much better with him. I’ve learned so much myself because it’s so different to the way I learned and he loves correcting me if I make a mistake when I’m sounding out a word.
Both myself and Raheem found the videos so helpful. When Raheem was reading, if he got stuck on a word, he’d go back to the video to listen to how something was said or to look at the mouth position for a sound. I found the videos great because English is not my first language and they showed me how to really help him.
As a parent, I love that I can see real progress. The clear, step-by-step structure means Kayleigh is always building on what she has learned.
Ben watched the videos and loved them and also loved telling everybody else about them. I loved sitting beside him with both of us watching them together. The videos were great because they were still teaching him to read. He got a lot from them as opposed to me just reading stories to him. His reading is coming on brilliantly.
Seeing Eala grow in confidence with reading has been amazing. The Honeydew Kingdom programme made learning to read enjoyable and stress-free.
